The Entire Collection of Pictures & Drawings, by English Masters Formed … by that Well-Known Amateur Henry Rice, Esq.

Messrs. Christie & Manson

Reference: Christie’s, 24 April 1845

The sale took place over five days, 24–30 April 1845. The catalogue notes that the 'celebrated collection of DRAWINGS by ENGLISH MASTERS' owned by Henry Rice (1788–1844) was 'particularly rich in the elegant and tasteful WORKS of his friend EDRIDGE'. In fact Henry Edridge (1768–1821) was Rice's nephew and Joseph Farington noted that he 'left his drawings to his nephew not wishing to have them sold' after his death (Farington, Diary, 24 May 1821).
