Walter Thornbury, The Life of J. M. W. Turner, R. A. Founded on Letters and Papers Furnished by His Friends and Fellow Academicians, 2 vols., London, 1862
A thirteen-volume extra-illustrated copy of the 1862 edition is in the British Library (74/Tab.438.a.1). The compiler of the volumes, John Platt (1842–1902), inserted numerous engravings and aquatints after drawings by Girtin to illustrate Thornbury’s biography of Turner as well as a watercolour of the bridge at Beddgelert seen in TG0778a. Sadly, Platt’s attribution of the work to Girtin cannot be accepted, resembling the work instead of Joshua Cristall (1767–1847).
