Sir Michael Ernest Sadler (1861 - 1943)
Sir Michael Ernest Sadler (1861–1943) was appointed vice-chancellor of the University of Leeds in 1911 and he dedicated his life to education. A firm believer in the moral quality of art appreciation, he bought, sold, donated and bequeathed a large collection of modern and historical works, particularly Post-Impressionist works and British watercolours, including three by or attributed to Girtin.
